Thanks to popular demand, Stitchawaytours has put together somewhat of a last minute 2008 fall trip to Scotland. Full of breathtaking wild scenery, warm hospitality and lots of wooly sheep, Scotland is one of Europe's best kept travel secrets, not to mention a ewephoria for knitters! Join Stitchawaytours's founder Sally Black on this delightful journey designed especially for wool lovers. Sally has traveled to Scotland many times. In the travel industry she is known as a certified Scotland specialist. She has used all of that experience and knowledge, along with her passion for knitting, to create this very special itinerary to her favorite wild and wooly places.

A couple of important points straight away...Sally designed this trip to offer an intimate travel experience. ONLY 8 passengers will be joining Sally for this remarkable journey. We would urge you to make your plans and decide quickly to avoid disappointment. This is a LAND ONLY trip. This way travelers can use any frequent flyer points they may have, book flights at their own convenience or Stitchawaytours will be happy to assist booking flights for an additional fee. The price of $2,489.00.00 is a per person price based on two people sharing a room together. If you would prefer a single room all to yourself, the rate is $2,789.00 which the single supplement.

The trip is geared towards travelers with an interest in spinning, knitting and dying of wool. By no means do you need to be an expert in any of these art forms. All you need is a love of the fiber arts and the willingness to be creative. That said, please know that spouses, friends and family members who are not yarn addicts are most welcome to join us and will receive a $200 discount. This journey through Scotland offers many features for the traveler who is just interested in enjoying Scotland for all it's beauty. There will also be a few opportunities where they can arrange sightseeing or time to enjoy their own interests.

Our Wild and Wooly itinerary....

Tues. Sept 9th - Everyone will be arriving to Scotland and making their way to Edinburgh. We will all be checking into The Allison House Hotel. This lovely Bed and Breakfast will be our home for 2 nights. We will all meet to enjoy a welcome dinner our first evening which has been arranged for our group, followed by an early night so we can rest up for all of the excitement ahead of us.

Wed. Sept 10th - Following breakfast at our hotel, we will have the opportunity to view and visit all the "must sees" of Edinburgh on an open top City Sightseeing Bus Tour, with the opportunity to get on and off the bus to explore the sights and attractions. This capital city of Scotland stands on 7 hills creating a dramatic skyline. The tour highlights, also includes the Palace of Holyrood House, the historic Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. Dinner will be on your own tonight and you can enjoy from free time in the evening to explore the city as you like.

Thurs. Sept. 11th - After breakfast and check out, our group will visit the studios and shop of Di Gilpin in Perth. Here our group will enjoy a private class with Di. Many will recognize Di's work from the pages of Vogue Knitting and Rowan Scottish Tweed. She will be demonstrating and teaching us her style of free knitting. Di will inspire our creativity to re-think the way we wear our clothes and share with us a new vision for traditional stitches. Non knitters can enjoy the day sightseeing around this beautiful town of Perth set on the River Tay. Our evening is free and tonight we'll be staying at The Quality Hotel Perth Bed and Breakfast.

Fri. Sept 12th - After breakfast and check out, we're headed to the Isle of Skye. Along the way our group will be treated to some of Scotland's most breathtaking scenery as we enter the Highlands. It will be a tough decision whether to knit or to enjoy the gorgeous views. Along the way we'll be making a few strategic stops, including a visit to infamous Urquhart Castle and time to do some monster spotting on the shores of Loch Ness.

Tonight we'll be checking in to Rosedale Hotel. The idyllic Rosedale Hotel is situated on the harbour front of the beautiful Highland town of Portree, the capital of Isle of Skye. The Hotel was originally the houses inhabited by the fishermen of Portree, some dating as far back as the reign of William IV. We'll call this historic seaside harbor home for the next two nights with time in the evening to explore the village.

Sat. Sept. 13th - Following breakfast at our hotel, our group will begin the day with a visit Shilasdair the Skye Yarn Company. The word shilasdair is Gaelic for the flag iris, an historic Highland dye plant. This unique shop is locatedon the Waternish Peninsula of the Isle of Skye. At this fascinating working croft farm will be treated to a wool dying demonstration learning how the crofters have dyed wools over the centuries. We'll also have time to shop their selection of hand made sweaters, knit kits, wool and woollen yarns, hand-spun garments and felted textiles all using beautiful natural local dyes and wools.. We'll enjoy a local pub for lunch on our own.

After lunch, we'll head south on the Isle of Skye for a 2-3 hour visit to Teos Handspuns luxury yarns. Teo and Antonia's tiny studio cottage is filled to the rafters with luxury yarns most of which have been custom spun. They also hand dye many of their own fibers on the premises. What makes them truly unique is that they also import fibers imported by them from Argentina and Uruguay. Teo will do a little practical hand spinning and his Antonia partner can teach some of her knitting designs, finally ending the visit with a look at their Dye House.

We'll finish our whirl wind tour on the Isle of Skye with a visit to Dunvegan Castle. This is the jewel in the crown of the Isle of Skye, built on a rock once surrounded entirely by salt water. Dunvegan castle has been the family home of the Clan McLeod for over 800 years. Legend has it that the Clan has been protected by fairy flag which supposedly dates back to around 400 AD and is still proudly displayed above the mantel. We'll return to the Rosedale hotel with dinner on our own in Portree.

Sun. July 13th - Following Breakfast and check out, we'll travel on the morning ferry with our driver guide to Mallaig en route to Glasgow via the Glenfinnan Monument, the journey will also include a vist to the breathtaking battle valley of Glencoe.

We'll "take the high road" for a final farewell dinner together at the Loch Lomond Lodge restaurant. We'll dine in style set in the most idyllic and unspoilt area, offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views of Scotland's most breathtaking loch that has been immortalized through the ages in song. What better place for a group of knitters to spend their last night in Scotland but at the Argyll Hotel in Glasgow.

This is a LAND ONLY tour. Travelers are free to make their own airfare, airport/hotel transportation and travel insurance arrangements or Stitchawaytours can provide these services for an additional fee. Prices quoted include accommodations, welcome dinner, transportation to attractions, services, attraction and entrance fees, farewell dinner and daily breakfasts.

$200 per person deposit is due by May 30th, 2008 to confirm space. 8 participants are necessary for this group to travel at the quoted price. Deposits will be held and refunded in full if less than 8 travelers register for this specific trip. The remaining payment in full will be due on or before July 15th, 2008. Payments must be made by check to "Stichawaytours.com".

A valid passport is required for this trip. It is the responsibility of all travelers to obtain a passport and carry it with them at all times during their trip overseas. For security reasons, all airline tickets and hotel reservations must exactly match the legal first and last name listed on a traveler's valid passport. Name changes can result in additional fees and penalties. Failure to produce a valid passport at the time of departure or embarkation can result in denied boarding. This means you will not be allowed to be allowed to travel. Denied boarding is not covered by travel insurance.
